What is SAMBO?
Description
Being the most simplified, practical and efficient way of submission grappling, SAMBO keeps to its origins as a Russian acronym that stands for “Self-defence without weapons” and the first unified combat fighting style of the Soviet army. Over the years, SAMBO was developed into a combat sport that emerged the first style of MMA in Europe and gave a whole new regard on submission grappling. Today, world class athletes, fighters, and grapplers such as Feodor Emilnenko and Khabib Nurmagomedov show the efficiency of SAMBO on the international stage with unbeatable success where their victories are well documented to show their domination, both submitting and knocking out opponents from all backgrounds! Fueling and influancing the creativity of other similar martial arts and being a national sport of Russia with a tremendously growing popularity in Europe, SAMBO was divided into 4 different categories that are thought and performed for different approaches.
